Darlings it has been an incredible 2023:
Some accomplishments from this bookish life this year:
Finished the Broken Kingdoms (I’m still a little heartbroken)
Signed a 2-book traditional deal with Penguin-Random House (Ace books)
released a new little book called The Ever King
forced myself out of my shell by agreeing to go to book signings next year
had at least 6 different hair colors
sold several foreign rights
watched COSAT be published in French and Spanish and COIAA in French.
made some awesome friends, both author and reader
discovered the beautiful world of Dramione fan fiction
Some of the struggles:
lost sleep when my characters were a-holes
overbooked my summer and barely hit deadlines
struggled with inadequacy
had several bouts of dark anxiety
had my account nearly shut down over pirating
crippling imposter syndrome
close death in the family
It’s been a year of great highs but also some struggles.
I’ve learned a lot about myself as a woman, an author, and a business owner.
My word for 2023 was Pivot. It came in handy plenty of times.
For 2024 my word is: Bold.
I hope to trust my instincts a little more, be less worried over what other people might think, and boldly write authentically, and boldly be me. I hope it helps me grow as a human to be kinder, more compassionate, and more gentle over the next 365 days.
Thank you for your support. I’ll say it again, you’ve changed my life!
Happy New Year!
